Stewards of mysteries

1 Corinthians 4:1-21   Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2    Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

A steward is someone who has been placed in charge of valuable things.  These valuable assets have increase potential. These assets can also be squandered and wasted.
When we think stewardship, in the church, we always think about money. After all what churchgoing person hasn’t heard a good message on giving. The apostle Paul speaks of being a steward of mysteries not finances.

We have been given gifts precious assets from the Lord.  As good stewards we must treat these assets as valuable and carefully consider how we interact and use these assets.

1. The word of God- This is a mystery to the world. Many people do not realize the power of the living word of God. This word has potential to increase your life. It is effective to your Spirit, your soul, and your body. How have you been handling your responsibility as a steward of the mystery of God’s word?

2. The Holy Spirit- The Spirit is the earnest deposit from God. The Spirit is a mystery to the world but sadly is a mystery to the church attendees as well. It seems that few people have tapped into the increase potential that is found in the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 1:22. Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

God has deposited his Spirit in us. He desires to increase the quality of our life and those around us by the power of the Holy Spirit. How have you been handling your responsibility as a steward of the mystery of the Holy Spirit?

3. Your life- Your life is a gift from God. The time that you have alive on this earth should be used wisely.  I heard someone say once that the place where you can find the most untapped potential in one place is the graveyard. There lies hundreds of people maybe thousands who have never reached their full potential in life. Your life is a God-given mystery and you are a steward of it. How have you been handling your responsibility?
Every steward of precious assets has three options to consider.

1. You may release- A good steward only releases asset for a specific purpose. This precious asset has the ability to meet the specific need and accomplish an important task. As a steward of the mysteries of God you have the opportunity to release the Word, The Spirit, and the giving of your life to accomplish a specific purpose.  God’s chosen purpose.
2.  You may invest- it is possible to invest the word the Holy Spirit and your life into others. I must admit sometimes your investment into people can come great disappointment. But some investments turn out to be tremendous blessings. Don’t be afraid to invest in the people that are around you.

2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3.  You may retain increase-it is important to realize that as you are giving and investing these precious mysteries, the Lord God also give back into you in great measure.  We must pray that we have the ability to retain more of the word, more of the Holy Spirit, and more life. Yes it is possible to have more life than what you have right now. God is the giver of life, he wants you to have abundant life. There are testimonies of many people who were ready to die naturally, but by the power of God they were given more life from the Lord.

Never underestimate the increase potential in the precious assets that you have been given by God.

Have you handled your responsibility as a steward well?

The Weight of Honor

Honor- (kabad = weighty, heavy) honor is a heavy esteem and respect laid upon the shoulders of one who has faithfully fulfilled (honored) their commitments in the midst of great hardship and danger. But we must not overlook that Honor may also carry the burden of future responsibility.
The person honored has shown greatness in the past. Those that labor in the word and in doctrine the Bible says are worthy of double honor. But the honor we give to God belongs to God alone. The highest honor is God’s. He alone deserves the respect that we can give to him, for what he has done no other man was able nor worthy to accomplish. But He is also laden with a responsibility greater than can be placed upon any man. For in Jesus Christ alone do we have our confidence. Just as He has proven in the past, He is also willing to handle the battles in your future.

So when we honor God we are saying to him; “thank you for what you have done and I now realize how reliant I am on you.” I honor you Jesus and my confidence is in you.

All honor and all glory be unto the spotless Lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world.

Don’t quench the Spirit of God

Don’t quench the spirit of God

1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Quench not the Spirit.”
Holy spirit / ghost same thing

Ephesians 4:30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Quench- to extinguish or put out

Grieve – to cause sorrow or pain of mind or heart

The Spirit of God has not been denied deity in the church. But he has been greatly neglected and not greatly honored in today’s church. I fear in many cases the body of Christ today has quenched the fire of the Holy Spirit in our midst and caused great sorrow to the Holy Ghost.

I believe the greatest pain the Holy Ghost feels comes from the rejection and the quenching of his moving in our churches and our life.

There are some churches that exist and are very functional as an organization. But if the Holy Spirit would ever chose to leave that church they may never know it.

I am thankful to be a part of a church where the Spirit of the Lord with all nine gifts and all nine fruit are not only excepted but celebrated.

* I feel that most Christians and churches that grieve the Holy Spirit do so because they are unfamiliar with his work. If they understood the work of the Holy Spirit they may be more open to is moving.

Who is the Holy Spirit?
He is not a creepy ghost that brings fear. He does not haunt the souls of men. The Holy Spirit is not enthusiasm. He is Not energy (positive or negative) nor is he the personification of God. He is not acting like God or just representing God, but he is part of the triune deity of God. He is a person with all the characteristics of a person. He is God in us with us all around us. You must understand He is not a person like you and I bodily. He is not Measured by hight and weight or mass, He is a spirit being. He has substance. Personality, he can love and desire, and rejoice and grieve. He has will, passion, furry, and disgust. He is deity he is God and he is present here.

Because he is Spirit and not merely matter. He is not limited to space nor restricted in geography. Because he is not nearly matter he is able to transcend matter. He is able to move in and through vessels of substance. He is able to come in and work through you and I has we are open to the moving of the Holy Spirit in us. But he is also not limited to move in me and you at the same time. He is omnipresent. He has the ability to everywhere at once, and he can remain here and there and everywhere that he is welcomed.

Church history says he is God, we say he is God, but most importantly the Scriptures say he is God.

A W Tozer said And I wholeheartedly agree (mind you this is years before the Toronto blessing). He said. “I wouldn’t believe in the archangel if he came to Toronto with wings spread at 12 feet shining like an atom bomb just after it goes off, if he can’t give me chapter and verse.”

Psalm. 139:7 speaks of the Holy Spirit’s omnipresences… Whither shall I go from thy Spirit or whether shall I flee from thy presence.
Job 26:13 he is creator… By his spirit he garnished the heavens.
2corinthian 3:17 He is Called Lord.. Now the Lord is that spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty
Commandment at Baptism. In father son and holy ghost.

The Holy Spirit never enters a man and let’s him live like the world. That is the reason some people reject the Holy Spirit.

Reprove the world of
1. Sin
2. Righteousness
3. Justice

Comforter – Paraclete (Greek. Advocate. Helper. One who stands on your behalf)
*The Holy Spirit is your advocate on Earth
*Jesus is your advocate in heaven
1 John 2:1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Reprove – elegcho (Greek). To expose convict and convince.
(To bring to light, acknowledgement, and understanding.
Even the spirit of truth which the world cannot receive

The ministries of the Holy Ghost
Five Paraclete function mentioned in the book of John
1. He is the ever present help. “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” (John 14:15-17)
2. He teaches and reminds of truth. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:25-26)
3. He testifies of Christ. “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27)
4. He brings conviction. “Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going? Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer, and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.” (John 16:5-11)
5. He gives prophetic revelation. “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.” (John 16:12-15)

Opening and closing the spiritual doors

Opening and closing the spiritual doors in your life.

Proverbs 8:34 ESV

Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors

doorway or gate way is a point of entry and exit

There are no one-way doors in the spirit that I know of.

If I were to mention one possible one-way door it would be the lake of fire. I’m not so sure that God just doesn’t set a time to close that door of the lake of fire where no man nor spirit will ever exit again
God can open doors that no man can shut and he can close doors that no man can open.

Doors of salvation
Doors of faith

John 10:1-42 ESV

But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” …

Face the music

Face The Music

Genesis 3
The fall of man

Genesis 3:7
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Prior to the sin of man in the garden Adam and Eve were not running around in only their birthday suits, they were in perfect fellowship with God and we’re covered by the glory of the Lord. A bright aura of light shown all about them as it does from the Lord. The same brightness that was on Moses’s face. The same brightness that shown from the face of Stephen. The same brightness that was on Jesus. To be covered in the glory of the Lord is to live life without shame.

After the fall in the garden man was very ashamed. The glory of the Lord was removed from them immediately they recognized a difference they were naked and ashamed.

1. Fig leaves represent man’s efforts to cover our shame. Our humanistic efforts. Though our efforts are great often celebrated and noteworthy they are futile and unproductive long term.

Fig leaves. Every person though they may be arrogant, some what conceded, and proud of some of their accomplishments, they recognize they are naked they try to flaunt their fig leaves so no one sees past and realizes how utterly depraved we are.

Depraved not just Deprived
Deprived – desperately lacking basic needs. Destitute and poverty stricken.

Although certain Sinful habits can cause you to be deprived. so

Depraved. – morally corrupt; wicked.
“a depraved indifference to human life”
synonyms: corrupt, perverted, deviant, degenerate, debased, immoral, unprincipled; More

Every person must come to the understanding that without Christ we are morally spiritually and otherwise totally depraved. We must stop masking our spiritual condition with humanistic efforts.

2. We must face the music.

Illustration : story face the music

We may be able to fake and deceive others but we can’t deceive ourselves and we can’t deceive God.

– We must understand that there is nothing good in us except that which has been brought to pass from God. – We must recognize our total reliance on God for success in every area of our life.

3. We must learn to pray, to be prayed up, and to mix prayer with our gift.

In every thing prayer suplication
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Prayer mixed with a gift gets something done

Story:in Japan. According to the old story, there was once a man in the imperial orchestra who couldn’t play a note. Because he was a wealthy person with great influence, he demanded that a place be given him in the group because he wanted to “perform” before the emperor. The old conductor agreed to let him sit in the second row of the orchestra and hold a flute, even though he couldn’t read a dot of music. When a concert would begin, he’d raise his instrument, pucker his lips, and move his fingers. He went through all the motions of playing, but never made a sound. This deception continued for two years.

Then the old conductor died, and a new conductor took over. He told the orchestra that he wanted to audition each player personally. One by one they performed in his presence. Then came the phony flutist’s turn. He was frantic with worry, so he pretended to be sick. However, the doctor who was ordered to examine him declared that he was perfectly well. The new conductor insisted that the man appear and demonstrate his skill. Shamefacedly he had to confess that he was a fake, a hypocrite. He wanted the prestige of being part of the orchestra, but since he never took the time to learn his instrument he was unable to “face the music.”

Is The Church Irrelevant?

Is the church irrelevant?

Rob Bell former founding pastor of Mars Hill Bible church, a mega church in Michigan recently made comments on Oprah Winfrey show stating his reasons for feeling the church is irrelevant. His viewpoints were specifically do to the church being culturally out of touch widely for their refusal to accept gay marriage.

The church has been belittled to a nonproductive organization

I believe this is not due to the lack of being irrelevant but rather do to The abundance of being reprobate.

Romans 1:28

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Reprobate-

I believe this is the reason why. The church is…

1. Intimidated
Much of the church has become intimidated to take a biblical stance on relevant issues. We preach to our youth to stand up in the midst of peer pressure, but we, as their mature example of Christianity, have buckled time and time again in the face of our peers. We have proven ourselves to be unwilling to make a hard stance concerning our own faith. It’s no wonder we have less than 4% of our nation’s youth serving the Lord currently.

Ezekiel 2:6. King James Bible
And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

Jeremiah 1:8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

2. Uninterested
We are uninterested in The viewpoints of God found clearly in the word. We are uninterested in hearing biblical preaching. Because if we started paying closer attention to God’s word we know that it will come in direct conflict with our current worldview position. So instead of being confronted with the image in the mirror we choose to not look in the mirror.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

3. Uneducated
When “The Christians” are faced with moral issues we don’t know where we should stand. since we have no idea where the line is drawn biblically, we often find ourselves straddling the area where we feel the line should be drawn. But because we are uneducated in truth when challenged why we are standing where we stand, we gracefully sway in the direction of our peers. We find ourselves being double minded agreeing with truth in one circumstance and disregarding truth in another.
We have been culturally educated but not biblically educated.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

4. Uninspired
After hearing the same message preached 500 different ways we tend to come to church with no expectation. After singing the same hymn for 50 years we have no spirit of worship. So after we are unaffected in worship and unaffected in the word The only thing left is religious duty.
They have no passion for the Lord they are attending services
Compulsively giving
Reluctantly serving but if you take the duty away there is no deep relationship to sustain their faith. They are easily swayed and fallen because there is no preacher to encourage.

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

5. Unholy

2 Corinthians 6:17. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Ezekiel 22:26. Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

Profaned- to make common what is holy
