The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
1. You only have one life you should live it well. Your life should be abundantly lived.
Have you ever seen someone who lacked in life? They had no vigor- it’s like the light has gone out- they were living and breathing but they were dead man walking.
God’s people have the light inside of them, and fullness of life. There is no lack of life to the believer. If you’re a believer and you lack life you do not understand what is available to you.
2. God wants us to prosper
3 John 1:2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Situational prosperityProsperity looks different in different areas and in different situations
People prosper differently on a farm than in a city.
They prosper differently in Africa than in America.
To prosper simply means to move up. If you go from having to walk everywhere to getting a bicycle you’ve prospered.
Prosperity is relative to each situation
There is also
Poverty looks different in different areas and in different situations as well.
The poor woman who lived in a shoe had so many children she didn’t know what to do. Someone might say she’s poor because she has so many children how was she supposed to feed all those mouth’s
To the righteous they are a blessing from the Lord.
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
The poor in America look much different than the poor in Nicaragua. In Nicaragua the poor live in the dumps fighting for the scraps as the refuse truck pulls in.
3. Prosperity comes from the blessing of redemption but poverty comes from the curse of sin.
Psalms 1:1-3 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Psalms 32:1-2 A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity (does not hold iniquity against him), and in whose spirit there is no guile. (Deceit)
Both prosperity and poverty are a mindset. The way you filter every situation mentally. The way you process every situation you encounter.
New heart -new mind -new attitude -new walk
1)To regulate one’s life
2)To conduct one’s self
3)To pass one’s time in occupying one’s life
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Poverty is a destroying spirit
He provides a way to escape the corruption – that which destroys and decays spoils.
2 Peter 1:3-4
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
4. God is interested in the poor
He is interested to deliver them
The poor are mentioned 204 times in the Bible
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
